With live theatre back, winter is the perfect time to catch up on what we have missed the past few years.
Circling Time features songs and stories by renowned Aboriginal singer/songwriter and proud Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta and Nari Nari man Kutcha Edwards.
From the wings of a darkened stage drifts the evocative, slightly haunting sound of clap sticks. A stoically paced figure slowly emerges singing in his traditional language. This mesmerising introduction heralds a performance arranged in sequences exploring Kutcha’s life through the themes of Country, Birth, Youth, Politics, Love, Culture, Healing and Hope.
Kutcha’s new album Circling Time features songs chosen to complement each thematic segment of the show, culminating in a finale in which the audience is invited to participate, raising their voices in a unified song of hope. Kutcha leaves audiences enthralled with his performance, his beautiful voice, charismatic stage presence and with a deeper understanding of the Australia’s first people.
Suitable for the whole family, Circling Time is on at the Ulumbarra Theatre at 7.30 pm, June 15.
With two shows on June 29, Wolfgang’s Magical Musical Circus will captivate audience members from three years old to 103. Created by Yaron Lifschitz with Benjamin Knapton and the Circa Ensemble musical mayhem and movement fuse in this family show with a circus twist.

This skilful and illuminating show features Circa’s dexterous artists and a live accordionist. Watch as the notes are physically lifted off the page as performers bring the renowned compositions to life.
Playing the Ulumbarra Theatre at 10 am and 6 pm.
Stardust and The Mission (Double Bill)
On July 13 at the Capital Theatre, join award-winning ABC presenter and performer, Joel Carnegie, and acclaimed Gunditjmara actor, Tom Molyneux as they bring audiences two little-known Australian stories.
Starting at 7.30pm is Stardust, the story of bandleader and trumpet player, Col Brain. Before he died, Col placed his most prized life possessions into a cupboard and locked it up, never to be opened again. But what was inside? Told through the eyes of his grandson – Joel Carnegie – herein lies the discovery of a time capsule of Australian musical life, in a heart-warming quest to uncover what Col wanted us to know about his life by the things he left behind.
An interval is followed by The Mission, which tells the journey of ‘Fighting Gunditjmara’ man, Allan McDonald – one of the first Aboriginal soldiers from Victoria to enlist for war. He fought at Gallipoli and Beersheba, only to be denied a soldier’s settlement on his ultimate return to Australia and forced from his land at the Lake Condah Mission. This captivating and rollicking story, told by his great, great nephew, Gunditjmara man Tom Molyneux, tells the truth of Uncle Allan’s struggle; fighting for Country, for love, and for justice.
