After an enforced hiatus, The Rheola Charity Carnival is back on the calendar on Easter Monday this year, when it proudly celebrates 150 carnivals. Advertised as ‘Real Country Entertainment’, events throughout the day include sheep dog trials, wood chopping, vintage engine displays and traditional country cooking.

Since the very first carnival in 1871, a dedicated group of volunteers have worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the day is one of fun and celebration of all things country.

Deb Hancock is one of the organisers of the event and said this year will be extra special as the community celebrate 150 carnivals.

“We’ve been having meetings every month and there will be a few more before the actual day,” Deb said.

“This one has been a little bit harder because Covid has brought in a few more restrictions so there’s a bit more financial strain with this one. But we’re keeping the admission price at $10 per person with anyone under 15 free.”

All money raised from the Carnival goes hospitals in Inglewood, Maryborough and Dunolly, and the annual raffle supports maintenance of the Rheola Hall and grounds.

“People are bringing in photos and memorabilia that will be on display, a plaque will be unveiled and it’s just a great chance for the community to get together,” Deb said.
