Regional Victoria’s exciting music event, the Castlemaine Jazz Festival, returns this year, bigger and bolder than ever. The three-day festival showcasing the best regional and city jazz musicians will be held over the Queen’s birthday weekend, with the opening on Friday June 10th at the Theatre Royal.
Opening night focuses on local jazz and features three celebrated Castlemaine acts: Pip Avent’s Mouldy Jazz, ska-reggae funk and jazz merchants King Stone, and the Balkan brass delights of The Seduceaphones.
Patrons can enjoy 30 amazing bands over the weekend while wandering from venue to venue at their leisure.
Festival venues include the Theatre Royal, Phee Broadway Theatre, Castlemaine Bowling Club and Boomtown Winery at the Mill, with new venue Boomtown Wine accessible in the evenings.
Also look out for a special performance of the Melba Big Band on Saturday afternoon at the Rotary Art Show in the Town Hall at 4pm.
In action since 2018 the Melba Big Band has performed at a variety of venues and festivals. The 16-piece band of women from Melbourne, led by saxophonist Justine Jones, includes musicians from a range of musical backgrounds playing the best of the vintage big band era with a dash of the modern.
Tickets for the festival offer great value for money, with a weekend pass (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) only $115, a day pass $85 and evening tickets at $40. Concessions and youth tickets also available.
