The winner of the prestigious Clunes Ceramic Award will be announced at the official opening of the Clunes Ceramic Exhibition on Saturday 1 October at the Union Bank Arts Centre, 22 Fraser Street Clunes. The wining artist will receive a prize of $10,000 contributed by the Hugh Williamson Foundation.
Event organiser Graeme Johnstone said the high standard of entries reflects the status of the award throughout the ceramic community in Australia.
“We have over 159 entries this year from all around Australia,” Graeme said.
“The standard of entry is very high. We don’t have room to exhibit all entries, so have managed to narrow it down to between 40 to 50 pieces.”
A judging panel of three or four experts will decide the winner, but there is also a people’s choice category, and all work displayed is available for purchase.
In past years, Graeme estimates that approximately 1000 people attend the event each weekend.
“It’s great for the town and surrounding areas, as many of the people attending the award will make a weekend of it,” Graeme said.
Established in 2010, the Clunes Ceramic Award is an initiative of Creative Clunes Inc in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum.
