Carisbrook might have thrown the party for the official opening of the clubrooms on Saturday, but it was Anthony Zelencich providing all the gifts as his 10-goal haul took him closer to the magical 100-goal mark in their 184-point win over Royal Park.
His haul takes him to 89 goals for the season, with this being his best return so far in 2023.
Carisbrook were determined to keep all the pressure on Harcourt in the battle for top spot, and got off to an ideal start when they kicked nine first-quarter goals to one to open up a 54-point lead at the opening change.
The intense Redback pressure did not let up in the second quarter either, as they dominated all facets of the game to kick 10 goals to one in the term to extend the lead beyond 100 points at the main break.
Royal Park, to their credit, were enjoying a less torrid afternoon than their round one clash which saw them lose by 215 points with a significantly weakened team, and they would have been happy with their third quarter, where they restricted the Redbacks to five goals.
But Carisbrook continued to pile on the goals in the final term, adding another eight to pass 200 points for the third time in season 2023.
Alongside Zelencich’s 10-goal haul, Nick Wright was outstanding for the Redbacks, while Zak Rinaldi and Harry Butler continued their outstanding campaigns. Matt Bilton and Jackson Bowen completed the best for Carisbrook.
For Royal Park, Lachlan Bates continues to put in significant individual performances, while Beau Govan, Ben McKay, Jack Broad, Luke Relouw and Rhys Egan were also named in the Tigers’ best.
