A heavily depleted Maryborough lineup was no match for South Bendigo on the weekend, losing by 50 goals.

It was a vastly different Magpies that hit the court, with just five players staying in the team from their last game.

A young goal circle duo of Abbey Nalder and Ava Harrison were selected, giving both a good opportunity to work together at A grade level.

It was all South Bendigo in the first quarter, scoring 18 goals to just three from the Magpies, all coming from Nalder.

The Bloods continued to hit the scoreboard at will in the second quarter, although defensive duo Alex Williams and Finley Wagstaff were working overtime to keep the scores respectable. As a result, they held the Bloods to 15 goals, while the Magpies added five, with Nalder adding four and Harrison scoring her first goal of the afternoon.

The third quarter was essentially a repeat of the first quarter, with the Bloods scoring 18 goals, while Maryborough scored four, all through Nalder, with the Bloods holding a 39-goal lead at the final change.

Maryborough continued to fight it out, but their more experienced opponents were able to extend the margin thanks to 17 goals to six in the last quarter, with Nalder scoring five and Harrison once.

Wagstaff and Amanda Durbridge were able to put in impressive performances against the tide, while it was a good learning experience for the Magpies, with many of the lineup stepping up to A grade for the first time.

The Magpies will now look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Strathfieldsaye.
