Maryborough were unable to keep up with Eaglehawk on the weekend, losing by 31 goals to fall to ninth on the ladder.

However, a young Magpies outfit continued to gain experience, and an A grade debut was handed to Ella Patten, who played admirably in the second half.

The Hawks started the better of the two teams, scoring 15 goals to six to open up a quick nine-goal lead at the first change. Keely Hare scored five goals, while the returning Abbey Nalder added another.

Maryborough’s most competitive quarter of the day was their second quarter, scoring nine goals, but it wasn’t enough to cut into the margin, with the Hawks adding another 13 goals to extend their lead to 13 at the main break. Hare added seven more goals, while Nalder scored twice.

In a repeat of the first quarter, the Hawks added another 15 goals to six to take the lead to 22 goals at the last break. Nalder scored five goals, while Hare added one.

The last quarter saw the Hawks add another 15 goals to seven as they proved to be a little too strong. Nalder scored four more goals, while Hare scored three.

Elsewhere around the club, Maryborough’s 17 and under team kept alive their chances of securing the double chance with a strong 37-goal victory over the Hawks, with Nalder scoring 36 goals in an impressive performance.

It was a tougher day for B grade and B reserve, however, with B grade losing by 28 goals, while B reserve lost by 43 goals.
