Carisbrook’s under 14s took centre stage on Sunday, with the under 18s having a bye, and were rewarded with their second victory of the season at Lake Wendouree.
The Lady Redbacks led from start to finish, continuing on from their good form that they displayed last week against Darley.
It was a fast start for the Lady Redbacks which helped them to set up an early buffer, kicking two goals to one to open up a seven-point lead at the first change.
A defensive scrap in the second quarter saw no score added on the scoreboard, ensuring Carisbrook were able to defend their seven-point lead into the main break.
Another goal in the third quarter, while holding Lake Wendouree scoreless, saw the Lady Redbacks all but establish a match-winning lead by the final change, taking a 15-point advantage going into the last change.
Lake Wendouree threw every-thing at the Lady Redbacks, but it was to no avail as they defended stoutly, only allowing two behinds on the board in the final stanza to take their second win of 2022, with the final scores Carisbrook 3.3 (21) to Lake Wendouree 1.2 (8).
Rhani Evans led from the front, adjudged best on ground with her two-goal effort, while Emma Mortlock, Sienna Mark, Ella Gourley, Harmony Rizzo and Remi Jardine were also amongst Carisbrook’s best players. Mahli Stone was the Lady Redbacks’ other goalkicker.
Carisbrook will look to finish their Ballarat Football League Women’s season next week on a high, with the under 18s travelling to Lake Wendouree, while the under 14s will play North Ballarat, both at CE Brown Reserve.
