It was a reunion for young and old last Saturday when the Wright family came together.

The family were united by William Wright, who died in 1961, but not before starting a legacy across 257 descendants and growing.

He had 12 children of his own, 40 grandkids, 80 great grandchildren, 118 great great grandchildren and seven three-times great grandchildren. The oldest living cousin just turned 90 years old, while the youngest family member is only a few weeks old.

Kate Hingston, who is among Mr Wright’s grandchildren and author of a family history book, told the 50-odd attendees that family means everything.

“All of the 12 original Wright siblings — our parents — have passed on but I think they’d be smiling to see us here, still connected, still coming together to share stories, memories, and laughter,” she said.

Their persistent family connection across generations isn’t by accident but through the efforts of its members. Ms Hingston thanked all those who travelled to the reunion on November 29, while making special mention of local Judy Turton.

“[She] really is the glue that keeps us all connected. She’s the one who keeps track of everyone, and makes sure we stay in touch.”
