The Goldfields Sustainability Group is inviting community members along to learn about recycling and upcycling textiles.

The group’s Barry Parsons said the workshop is another way to explore recycling options and opportunities.

“We are pleased that Cathy Tobin from Gypsy Weaver Studio will help us explore how to use old fabric in creative ways,” he said.

“Cathy uses free form weaving of reclaimed material to produce amazing combinations of colour, texture and patterns. All the materials she uses are sourced second hand or are gifted to her. She includes yarns, fabric, sewing threads, zips, buttons and elastic.

“Each piece of weaving is unique. Cathy’s garments are sewn using hand and machine sewing. She makes clothing, bags, accessories, jewellery and soft toys.”

Mr Parsons said the workshop will be a “show and tell” rather than hands on.

“We are interested in all ways of recycling and upcycling textiles so bring your own ideas to share,” he said.

The workshop will be on this Saturday, September 17 at the Maryborough Community House, from 3 to 5 pm.

The groups is asking for contributions of $15 per participant to cover workshop costs.

For more information or bookings contact Margaret Parsons on 0419 508 787.
