A workshop to explore improving young people’s access to work and study in the Central Goldfields is headed to town next week, with local students and youth encouraged to attend and share their ideas.
This will be the second Wicked Challenge Workshop — hosted by Triggering Innovation Leadership Transformation — held in the shire.
The first, held in November, focused on finding a solution to the problem of raising awareness of opportunities for young people to access work and study in Maryborough and the wider shire.
A physical and virtual learning hub in Maryborough with diverse work experiences, career advice and mentors/coaches to build young people’s aspiration and interest in further study and local careers was identified by education, industry and community stakeholders during the session.
Next week’s workshop will focus on youth engagement and input, interaction with local businesses, students and educators, and endorsement of an action plan.
The session will explore components of the proposed learning hub, designing a pilot project to test the components and will establish a core group to steer the future development of the hub.
“This workshop will determine how the learning hub can promote different educational pathways, such as university, vocational courses, and training to build employability skills,” Central Goldfields Shire mayor Grace La Vella said.
“We are also determining how we can provide information to young people, parents and career advisors on local jobs and business opportunities.
“The identification of pathways to ensure a skilled future workforce is a priority for council and creating a closer relationship between the education and business sectors to achieve this outcome.”
The workshop will take place on Monday, March 6 at 10.30 am at the Community Hub at 48 Burns Street, Maryborough.
