The Central Goldfields Words in Winter festival is back in full for 2022 after a disrupted two years, with a jam packed list of events to keep locals and visitors warm and well-read over the coming weeks.
Literary events will be held across Maryborough, Dunolly, Talbot and Carisbrook as part of the festival which has grown in popularity over the past decade.
Words in Winter coordinator Janice Simpson said she’s looking forward to the full program after COVID put an end to the 2020 festival and disrupted plans in 2021.
“We’re looking forward to a full program this year without fear of having it cancelled due to lockdowns,” she said.
“Our first event in Maryborough this Sunday is already a sellout, we have 40 people going to that. The local libraries are holding some events which is fantastic and the three lined up for Talbot will be good too with some nice venues.
“If this weather persists, why not spend an hour or two indoors talking about ideas or books.”
Ms Simpson said more visitors are beginning to attend the festival.
“I think it’s getting more popular as word gets out,” she said.
“You’ve got the stalwarts who go every year but as word gets out, there’s some new people and out-of-towners getting to events.”
Words in Winter kicks off this Sunday at the Bull and Mouth Hotel in Maryborough, with music, poetry and prose readings from 2.30 pm.
Events later in August include a reading and stand up show from comedian and author Justine Sless, a reading and Q&A session with authors Tania Chandler and Janice Simpson, and an open mic poetry session at Parkview Bakery.
