Welcome Record funding
Dunolly’s The Welcome Record has just received $4588 towards IT upgrades and community digital literacy, thanks to funding from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
The Welcome Record editor Angela Ang said she was pleased to receive the funding.
“As a fully volunteer-based community group, The Welcome Record is deeply grateful to receive this timely support from the partnership between Telstra and FRRR,” she said.
The Welcome Record has been a much loved and trusted source of news and community information in Dunolly for over 40 years.
The publication is a registered not-for-profit community organisation that publishes twice a month, circulating throughout Dunolly, Tarnagulla, Maryborough, Laanecoorie, Eddington, Moliagul and Bealiba.
The paper is produced entirely by volunteers in various roles.
Ms Ang said the funding will be allocated to build the capacity of the local newspaper’s operations with new devices to support staff and local digital literacy capability.
“This grant allows us to not only upgrade to new hard drives and laptops but also assist in building capacity of our local volunteer staff and assist local community group’s digital literacy and capability. It will be wonderful not to have any more computer crashes and ability to provide training,” she said.
“Digital literacy is vital in all small and large rural and regional towns due the increasing pace of modern technology making it difficult for senior and elderly citizens.”
This recent funding round was part of FRRR’s partnership with Telstra, awarding $200,000 across 26 grants for not-for-profits - throughout Australia.
The grants awarded were to assist in providing more equitable access to digital solutions, training and new technologies, equipping communities to become better connected, confident and prepared for the future.
