Weekend’s heat forces postponement
With temperatures reaching a scorching 37.8 degrees, the weekend pennant preliminary finals have been postponed to this weekend with grand finals to be played on March 8.
With Highland Tartan taking on Dunolly Blue in division one and Newstead Blue facing Maryborough Golf in division two, some hotly contested matchups were expected for last weekend.
But with soaring temperatures quickly becoming a cause for concern, the Goldfields Match Committee decided it was too hot to handle, pushing proceedings back a week to ensure player safety.
Play was unable to be rescheduled to Sunday due to the Regional State Finals being played on the same day with several Goldfields players competing.
The winner of Highland Tartan and Dunolly Blue will face Maryborough Golf in the division one grand final while Carisbrook is awaiting the result of Newstead Blue and Maryborough Golf to see who will fight for the division two crown.
