The Central Goldfields Shire Council has officially enacted the Daisy Hill Community Plan, mapping the vision for the next six years of development in the community.
The newest community plan is one of nine enacted in the shire, with council defining it as “a document that sets the community’s shared vision, captures its strengths, and sets future priorities”.
Planning for the community plan started in November 2022, with two community workshops and surveys posted to all 194 private dwellings in Daisy Hill making up the consultation process.
Lack of emergency preparedness, road safety, internet services andtransport were some of the 14 key issues raised by participating residents.
The plan’s vision aims to combat many of the key issues listed by 2030, as well as create a positive partnership with council, a more connected community and a focus on child friendly measures to support the increase in families.
Central Goldfields Shire councillor Chris Meddows-Taylor, who moved the motion to adopt the plan at the most recent council meeting, said the document creates a clear short-term vision for the community.
“I am delighted that I move that council adopts the Daisy Hill Community Plan,” he said.
“[This plan] follows the other plans that were developed a few years ago and have been progressively advised. Daisy Hill missed out at that time, but I thank council for its willingness to include Daisy Hill.
“It’s been a rewarding process as we’ve worked closely together to understand what the community’s shared vision is and what they see as their strengths and what their future priorities are.
“Implementation of the Daisy Hill Community Plan will be led by the local community with council to offer guidance, advice, advocacy and support where possible. Relevant key stakeholders/project partners and other government departments will be invited to work together with the Daisy Hill community on shared priorities.”
Central Goldfields Shire councillor Geoff Lovett said these plans are integral in ensuring local voices are being heard.
“I think the point [that] needs to be made is that every section of the Central Goldfields Shire is very important to us as councillors, and as such their needs and their wants must be listened to by us,” he said.
“This document, the Daisy Hill Community Plan is a perfect example of that and I congratulate all involved.”
The plan was created in collaboration with the Daisy Hill Community Centre, the main gathering place for the town.
Daisy Hill Community Centre president Bill Robinson said he is excited to see the improvements in Daisy Hill courtesy of this document.
“The key reason for the community plan is it allows us to have a shared vision on what we want in the short-term, and legitimises our application for potential grants for future projectsthat can help bring our ideas closer to reality,” he said.
“The community has had discussions for a while about what we need in the community, then in November of 2022, council came to us and explained how we can formalise this process.
“There wasn’t much council and community consultation before the plan, but now they bring us in line with new thinking and new opportunities available to us.
“Our community is showing a lot of interest in where we are heading and we want to repay that interest by keeping this rolling.
“We are going through the process now of what key vision we want to prioritise first as a community.
“We all live here, so we just want the best for this community, and with council’s support we can continue to have a positive impact.”
