In a celebration of hardwork, local students joined thousands across the state in receiving their final results yesterday — closing the door on a significant chapter of their lives.
This year, around 49,500 students will graduate with their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), boasting a completion rate of 98 percent.
“I would like to congratulate every student getting their results, this is an exciting step as they move from secondary education into further study, training, the workforce or a gap year,” Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins said in a statement released yesterday.
“These results show our education system is delivering high-quality outcomes, setting students up for future success in whatever pathway they choose. I want to acknowledge and thank the hardworking teachers, principals and parents right across the state who have supported students to achieve these fantastic results.”
Alongside VCE graduates, an additional 15,163 students received their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), 6 percent more than last year.
For flood affected students, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) worked on ensuring they were not disadvantaged by working directly with schools and applying Derived Examination Scores where they were needed.
Derived Examination Scores reflect as accurately as possible the level of achievement expected of individual students, based on all available assessment data gathered throughout the year, including the General Achievement Test (GAT) results.
VCAA CEO Stephen Gniel asked students to embrace future opportunities and be proud of all of their achievements.
“Finishing school is an exciting time and your VCE or VCAL qualification will unlock many pathways now available to you. It’s also natural to feel a little overwhelmed, so reach out to your family, teachers and friends for support and seek out all the information you can as you plan your next step,” he said.
“While your results today reflect your hard work, they don’t define you. Feel proud of what you’ve achieved and remember, there are many post-school pathways and opportunities to achieve your goals.”
