The council’s Open Spaces team returned to work Monday last week to find their hard work plundered. A freshly planted garden bed filled with a number of holes where flowers used to be.

Alan Jones, manager opera-tions, said similar thefts are happening too often, becoming a frustrating and expensive problem for council.

“Our Open Spaces team works hard to keep our gardens looking fantastic — even throughout the heat of the summer. Having to replace garden beds they’ve built up the week before really affects them,” he said.

“Whoever is doing this is stealing from our shire’s resources, disrupting our busy parks and gardens schedule and making a mess of gardens so many tourists come to enjoy.”

If anyone has any further information on the ‘flower bandits’ identity they are encouraged to contact council or report it to the Maryborough Police on 5460-3300.
