NBN Co have accelerated broad-band internet speeds, with some plans seeing a five times improvement, for eligible customers starting from September 14.

Through the Accelerate Great program, the company have increased the speeds on offer for those connected through Fibre to the Premises and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial networks.

It means eligible customers, with a router that’s not too old, on the NBN’s Home Fast, Home Superfast or Home Ultrafast plans will see an automatic improvement in their speeds over the coming weeks.

NBN Co’s chief customer officer Anna Perrin said the improvements were designed to meet the growing demand for high-speed broadband.

“In this digital world, people across Australia are using more data, on more devices, doing more than ever before. This trend will continue as new technology emerges and becomes a part of our lives,” she said.

“That is why we are delivering the most significant uplift to our wholesale speed tiers since the network began. They mean we can support Australian homes and businesses to stay ahead of the curve and handle the data demands of today, and the years to come.”

According to the company, the past year saw average monthly data used per premises on the nbn network increase by more than 10 percent — from 460 gigabytes in June 2024 to 508 gigabytes in June 2025.

It reflects the growing demand of households, the company explained, which support more than 25 internet-connected devices expected to surpass 44 by the end of the decade.

However, Ms Perrin said the program is about more than just fast internet speeds.

“It’s about empowering Australians to thrive in a digital world. Faster broadband means better access to online education, virtual healthcare, cloud-based business tools and emerging technologies. Reliable, high-speed connectivity is essential for the digital experiences that shape our modern lives,” she said.
