Upgrades to Cairn Curran

Boaters and fishers could enjoy the recently upgraded facilities at Cairn Curran Reservoir over the long weekend.

The recent upgrade was made possible thanks to the works at Picnic Point being completed under budget last year.
The recent upgrade was made possible thanks to the works at Picnic Point being completed under budget last year.

The works on the southeast foreshore of the reservoir included refurbishing the boat ramp, access track and Fisherman’s Toilet Blocks, as well as sealing the car park.

Funding from the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s (VFA) Better Boating division allowed Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) to complete the extensive upgrades.

While the works were completed while allowing partial access to the boat ramp and car park, GMW senior storage officer Adrian Pearse thanked the public for their cooperation.

“Visitors were very understanding of the closures and their patience was greatly appreciated,” he said.

“We are really pleased to have the works completed so that visitors can get the most out of the site.”

The project was made possible thanks to another Cairn Curran recreational area upgrade being completed under budget.

The remaining funds of GMW’s upgrade of Picnic Point in 2024, which the VFA helped fund, went to upgrading Welshmans Reef.

According to VFA’s boating programs manager Amber Perry the reinvestment of recreational boaters’ licence and registration fees, via the Victorian Government’s Better Boating Fund, partly funded both projects.

“Cairn Curran is a great spot to get out and fish or tow a donut with the family, and these projects mean launching and parking is easier on both sides of the reservoir,” she said.
