Upgrade to benefit community
The Bowenvale Playground has secured a $100,000 upgrade which will bring new equipment and infrastructure to the local community.
Works begin this week on the first stage of the upgrade expected to take two to three months. The works are funded through $50,000 from the Victorian Government’s Tiny Towns Fund along with $50,000 from council.
The first stage includes a fence to improve safety along Timor Road, new play equipment, new sand and mulch soft fall areas, new trees for shade, plus much more.
Andrew Tatchell, Timor Primary School principal, said the upgrade to the playground is much needed.
“I’m really glad to hear that the grant was successful and backed up by the Central Goldfields Shire. I think that’s a fantastic use of resources,” he said.
“Small communities can often get left out so it’s great that the grant’s been facilitated and the council have backed it.”
The current playground, three pieces of equipment surrounded by sun-bleached mulch, is still used by the community but Mr Tatchell said the upgrade will offer a much needed benefit for the growing community.
“The benefits of being active, being outdoors, and potentially mixing with other children in the community and families — making connections. I think they’re the definite benefits,” he said.
While the works are being completed the playground will be closed, although the tennis court will still be accessible. The works also leave room for further play equipment planned for the new financial year and possible future funding.
