Coach Mick Noonan said the most pleasing aspect of the morning was seeing smiles on the players faces as they enjoyed their first game of the season.

In under 10 football no scores are officially recorded, with the focus firmly on skill development, participation and creating a safe and enjoyable team environment for all involved.

The under 12s also played on Saturday, suffering their first defeat of the season against a strong North Bendigo outfit 21.12.(138) to 1.2.(8).

Despite the scoreboard, the young Magpies continued to battle hard throughout the contest and showed plenty of determination against relentless opposition pressure.

Tommy Boyes again led the way for Maryborough, producing another outstanding best on ground performance with his attack on the football and willingness to compete never wavering.

Hunter Moore also turned in his best game for the season, standing tall in defence under constant pressure from the North Bendigo forwards and refusing to give in.

While the under 12s were unable to keep their unbeaten start going, the under 14s improved to an impressive 3-0 record with a commanding victory over Golden Square at Princes Park on Sunday.

It was another polished team performance from the Magpies, with strong teamwork through the middle of the ground ensuring they created repeat entires inside 50.

The forward line made the most of those chances, capitalising in

front of goal. Down back, the Maryborough defence was equally impressive.

Rather than relying on one standout performer, the Magpies shared the workload evenly, with

all players contributing strongly to the final score of 22.10.(142) to 1.3.(9).
