Triathlon club digs into first event of the 2023/24 season

The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club conducted the first event of its 2023/24 club championship Season from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on August 13.
The event was a reverse triathlon which involved a run and ride, and finished with a swim in the warmth of the indoor 25 m pool.
The long course format involved a 2 km run, 8 km cycle (two x 4 km loop), and 400 m swim, and the short course 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.
In the open male long course it was Adam Lowery, Will Coutts, and Joshua Britten who all enjoyed the calm weather conditions to post strong times.
All triathletes enjoyed the run and swim legs, with the light winds making cycling especially conducive to improved times.
In the end it was Britten who posted the fastest time of the day (32:34) to take first place, with Coutts and Lowery always within striking distance (35:32 and 36:38) to take second and third place respectively.
Greg Croft also combined a strong cycle and swim combination to touch the finish line in 39:44 to win the 50+ male long course category.
Ella Govan enjoyed the under 16 long course event, maintaining strong form throughout the run and cycle legs, and then powering to the finish in the 400 m swim to post the impressive time of 39:08 (over two minutes faster than her previous time posted at the July event).
The next club event will be another reverse triathlon involving a 2 km run, 8 km ride, and 400 m swim on September 10 from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre, with short course options as well. Registrations commence at 9 am for a 9.30 start.
