The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted the final event of its 2022/23 club championship season from the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre on Sunday, June 25.
The event was a reverse triathlon which involved a run and ride, and finished with a swim in the warmth of the indoor 25 m pool.
The long course format involved a 2 km run, 8 km cycle (2 x 4 km loop), and 400 m swim, and the short course 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.
Matthew Cain continues to improve with every club event he participates in, and the June open male short course was no exception.
Setting a blistering pace on the run, and then maintaining excellent form throughout the cycle leg, Matt was able to set the fastest time of the day in the short course (23:03) to win the open male category.
Second place overall went to 50+ female triathlete Emily Ryan who enjoyed a consistent three discipline performance to touch the finish line in the impressive time of 24:08.
Jacqueline Beer and Kate Cain also enjoyed strong races to finish in first (27:14) and second place (28:28) in the open female short course. Both produced consistent performances throughout the 2022/23 season.
Ella Govan enjoyed the U16 long course event, maintaining strong form throughout the run and cycle legs, and then powering to the finish in the 400 m swim to post the impressive time of 41:18.
As the June event was the last on the 2022/23 club championship season, the club will be celebrating it’s club presentation dinner on Friday, July 14 at the Bull and Mouth Hotel, with all current and past members, friends, and family invited to come along to celebrate the achievements of the club and its members throughout the last 12 months.
