The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club recently celebrated its achievements, both as a club and on an individual level, at the 2022/23 Club Championship Presentation Dinner.

After an uncertain start to the 2022/23 championship season, the club was pleased to produce yet another exciting year of triathlon competition and participation, including the extremely popular KIDZ triathlon for the region’s budding young triathletes.

The club’s championships were highly contested with new champions being crowned as well as past winners enjoying outstanding seasons again. Several categories had extremely close results as well with little separating winners from the second and third place-getters after the conduction of the final club event in June.

In the open male championship category, it was Josh Britten who produced yet another stellar season to win this category for the first time after being a four time under 16 male club champion.

Jaclyn Beer reproduced another outstanding season on the back of her 2021/22 achievements to become the back-to-back 2022/23 open female champion in her second competitive year with the club.

In the under 16 female club championship, it was Ella Govan who took out the award for the fourth time after enjoying another competitive season, and Cooper Mark achieved his third under 16 male club championship award. Both young triathletes have proven a natural ability in the sport, and can look forward to continued development and success.

Emily Ryan produced a strong and consistent season to take out the 50+ female club championship award. This has been a quadrella of wins for Emily after moving from the open female category.

Best club person was awarded to outstanding club volunteer Adam Lowery for his service to the club over many years. Adam’s involvement and support of the club, especially at an administrative level has contributed to its ongoing success, and is appreciated by club volunteers and participants alike.

The championship dinner was a further celebration of the recent recognition of club secretary Jenny Barras as the 2022/23 Triathlon Victoria club volunteer of the year for her services to the club’s administration and activities as well.

Club president Martin Mark stated his excitement over a successful year for the club.

“2022/23 was once again an exciting year for the club as it continued to provide opportunities for local and regional people to come along and experience the sport of triathlon in a friendly and supportive environment,” he said.
