Triathletes sizzle on Goldfields Reservoir for annual fun run

The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club Inc. conducted its third annual fun run from the upgraded Goldfields Reservoir walking track on Sunday, May 14 with some outstanding individual performances produced on the day.
In the long course (9.8 km) which involved six laps of the Goldfields Reservoir walking track it was young gun triathlete Josh Britten who set a blistering early pace to establish a lead on the chasingpack. Josh was able to sustain his fine running form to set a sub-50 minute winning time of 49:40 to win the open male category.
In the female long course section it was a very interesting competition with all runners within striking distance of each other throughout, and some positional changes late in the race.In the end it was young gun triathlete Ella Govan who crossed the finish line in first place (51:14) to be the fastest female of the day and first under 16 female. This time was a new course record in the female section.
Shaving over two minutes off her 2022 time, and only three seconds behind Ella was Emily Ryan, who crossed the finish line in 51:17 to win the 50+ female long course category.In second place in the 50+ female category, in a personal best time, and shaving over four minutes off her 2016 time, was Maldon-based runner Lucy Phillips who finished in the outstanding time of 52:01. Eliza Schultz also enjoyed the outstanding running conditions to post the impressive time of 57:31 to win the open female long course category.
In the short course (4.9 km) which involved three laps of the walking track it was Matt Morse who set the early pace with several other triathletes in hot pursuit. Matt maintained a strong pace throughout the event and was able to cross the finish line in a new course record of 20:52 to win the open male short course category. Second place overall in the open male short course was outstanding runner Adam Lowery in 22:00, with Jeff Beer (22:29) in third place overall and in the open male category.
Promising young runner Lleyton Morse shaved nearly two minutes off his 2022 time to win the under 16 male short course in a time of 22:49. Martin Mark (50+ male) was next across the line (30:40) with Jacqueline Beer the fastest female short course competitor (33:37) to win the open female category, and young Jaida Morse (under 16 female) in her first club event winning this category in 44:33.
The next club event will be held on Sunday, June 4 from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre and will be the last reverse triathlon of the 2022/23 championship season with a 2 km run, 8 km cycle, and 400 m swim featured in the long course, and a 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim comprising the short course.
