The event involved a run and ride, and finished with a swim in the indoor 25 metre pool. The long course format involved a 2 km run, 8 km cycle (2 x 4 km loop), and 400 m swim. The short course consisted of a 1.5 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.

In the open male long course it was Josh Britten and Tyler Beale who all enjoyed the ideal course conditions to post personal best (PB) times for the course.

Little separated Britten and Beale throughout the run leg, but Britten was able to produce another scintillating cycle leg heading into the 400 m swim.

Britten and Beale both continued to surge to the finish line in the swim leg, with Josh eclipsing his previous course record and PB to produce another sub-30 minute time of 29:14.
