The Saints wasted no time showcasing why they are a premiership contender in 2025, with Joel Dovaston, Edward Fanning and Alister Ferrier influencing the contest immediately.

Their ability to get first hands on the ball from stoppages allowed Trentham to build a 20-point advantage at quarter time after scoring four goals to one in the first quarter.

Similarly to their round eight loss to Carisbrook, Maldon recovered quickly from a low-scoring first quarter and brought like back into the contest thanks to Callum Buchanan, Darcy Kelly and Natnael McLaren.

Despite the Bombers offence kicking into gear with three goals, the Saints matched their output with four goals of their own, increasing their lead to 26 points after half time.

After a high-scoring second quarter, the third quarter was a more defensive affair, with both teams kicking one goal each for the term.

The Saints’ advantage increased slightly to 28 points as both teams prepared for the final quarter.

As Maldon threw caution to the wind to try and mount a remarkable comeback, Trentham held firm, repelling all of the Bombers’ advances while making them pay for their extra openings in their defence.

The Saints kicked four unanswered goals in the final term to seal the victory.

With Maldon doing a fantastic job to keep MCDFNL leading goalkicker James Regan to one goal, Jake Keogh picked up the scoring load for the Saints with a bag of five.

Keogh was also named in Trentham’s best players alongside Joel Dovaston, Fanning, Ferrier, Tom Boyer and Zachary Gervasoni.

Max Johns was a standout for the visitors, named as Maldon’s best player followed by Bryce Coffey, Bailey Brown, Noah Thompson, Damian Wust and Thomas Wilson.
