Trentham took a much-needed first victory of the season, taking an 18-goal victory over Harcourt.

The result puts the Saints into the top eight for the first time this season, while the Lions are rooted to the bottom for the time being.

Trentham got the jump in the opening term, taking a narrow lead thanks to 10 goals to seven. Jacqui Bell was doing much of the damage for the Saints, scoring eight goals, while Zahlia Turton added two. For Harcourt, Tegan McKay added six goals, and Jess Chaplin one.

The Saints continued to build their gap, and scored a further 12 goals to eight in the second term to lead 22-15 at the main break. Bell scored 11 goals for Trentham, with Turton adding one, while McKay continued to lead the line for Harcourt, scoring five goals, with Chaplin adding three.

The third quarter saw Tarnee Hammond take control for the Saints, determined to ensure her team would take victory for the first time in 2024. She would score all of Trentham’s 15 goals as they took a 37-25 lead into the last change. McKay added six goals for Harcourt, while Christine Webb added four.

Hammond would continue to lead the way for the Saints, scoring all 17 goals for the last quarter to finish with 32, while for Harcourt, McKay scored nine of their 11 goals to finish with 26 goals in a very solid performance, while Webb added two.

Both teams now face difficult tasks, with the Lions hosting the second-placed Maryborough Giants, while Trentham travel to Avoca.
