Newstead travelled to Trentham expecting a tough day at the office, and they got one. A nine-goal opening term by the Saints had the Steaders on the back foot as the Saints ran out winners by 68 points.
The second half of the game was a much more evenly contested battle, but the Saints were never really challenged as they dominated the centre clearances led once again by Joel Cowan and were again led up forward by James Regan with a bag of five goals to maintain his lead in the goalkicking.
The Saints were on fire in the final term and had they kicked truly from their 13 shots on goal, the scoreline could have been much worse for the Steaders.
The Kangaroos, to their credit, were able to win the third quarter as they fought the game out, and Hayden Hall was able to take his opportunities, kicking four goals for the afternoon to lead the way.
The Saints better players were Cowan, Ryan Thiesz, Joel Dovaston, Regan, Harrison Knight, and Hugo Hall.
Newstead named Hall, Anthony Robins, Harrison McGuire, Jedd Pedretti, Sam Daldy and Tyler James as their best players.
