TRENTHAM 13.25 (103) def TALBOT 1.2 (8)
Trentham finished its home and away season with a dominant 95-point slogging of Talbot, ruling them out of finals and highlighted by Saint forward Jake Keogh’s 100th season goal.
The Hawks started positively, sitting only 14 points in arrears at the first change, only to completely bow out of scoring over the next half of footy, with the Saints building to 5.8 (38) by half time and 10.19 (79) by three-quarter-time.
The Hawks finished with a single behind in the fourth, while Trentham reached triple figures with another inaccurate 3.6 (24) term.
The 13.25 (103) to 1.2 (8) result wasn’t a great show of scoring from either side on a difficult surface, but Keogh had a superstar moment as young Saints flocked to the ground to celebrate goal number 100.
Not one to be greedy, Keogh kicked just the one he needed for the ton, with Liam Bianco and Alister Ferrier leading the way with four snags each.
Darcy Matricardi, Ferrier, Bianco, Jack Mighell, Joel Dovaston and Harry Knight were best on for Trentham.
For Talbot, Sam Gibson, Adam Scott, Matt Smith, single goal-kicker Luke Kemp, Trent Barras and Zach Douglas were on the vote card in a loss that has seen the side out of finals.
Talbot finished ninth on the ladder due to this result plus Dunolly’s win over Avoca, meaning it’s all over for the Hawks until 2023.
Trentham, on the other hand, are just getting started, off to qualifying finals this weekend against Harcourt — the only side it has dropped a game against.
