Trentham cruised throughout their afternoon, taking a 44-point win over Maldon on what was a very soggy Trentham Reserve.
The heaviest of the rain seemed to hit Trentham throughout the afternoon, but a fast start was critical for the Saints given the weather at play.
They kicked four goals from 11 scoring shots, compared to just one goal from Maldon in the opening term, to take a 24-point lead going into the first break.
To Maldon’s credit, they didn’t lie down, and bossed the second quarter, kicking two goals from five scoring shots, all the while holding Trentham to just a goal. That meant that the Dons reduced the margin to 16 points going into the main break.
However, it was evident that the Dons had a little too much to do, and the Saints were able to get the game back on their terms in the third quarter, kicking two goals to one. Inaccuracy plagued the Saints, having also kicked five behinds for the quarter, but it was still enough to see them 25 points in front by the last term.
Maldon were hoping for a similar response to the second term as they turned for home, but it just wasn’t to be. Instead, Trentham kicked the only three goals of the quarter to extend the margin to a game-high 44 points by the end, eventually taking home another four crucial premiership points.
Jake Keogh was the best forward on the ground, kicking three goals and making full use of his opportunities. Harrison Knight has been in impressive form for the Saints, and was named best on ground, while Nathan Rodgers, Dylan Holden, Joel Cowan, Tristan Newman and Mitchell Peeler made up a solid supporting cast.
For Maldon, Patrick Long, Jordon Collins, Tanner Bishop, Brodie Leonard-Shannon, Matthew Gray and Max Johns were all named in their best players.
