Trentham’s winning streak has continued through round 13, although Maldon put up a tougher than expected fight at home.
The Saints were hot favourites pre-game, with Maldon recently falling down the ladder into sixth place, however the Dons put up a valiant attempt for the home crowd at Bill Woodfull on Saturday, eventually being downed by 38 points.
Both teams missed three chances at goal in the opening quarter with Trentham kicking three goals and Maldon scoring one.
The Bombers, looking to keep in touch, had multiple chances to keep within touching distance of the Saints, but could only score three goals from six shots, while the Saints were much more clinical in front of goal, scoring five goals to open up a 23-point lead at the main break.
Trentham would put the game away, albeit with an inaccurate return of 3.8 in the third quarter, as they led by 36 points at the final change, before a dour final quarter saw both sides score two goals each.
Max Johns, Coby Bennett, Billy Miller, Hayden Kelly, David Wilson and Julian Lockwood were best on for Maldon with Kelly, Lockwood, Bryce Coffey and Ash Woodman each kicking two goals.
Jake Keogh had a big day, kicking five goals and taking his season total to 86, with Cooper Webber-Mirkin adding three for good measure.
Ryan Bourke, Dylan Holden, Joel Cowan, Alister Ferrier, Harry Knight and Keogh were Trentham’s best.
Trentham has a massive test this weekend against Carisbrook, while Maldon has a chance to grab victory over Talbot as teams start meeting opponents for the second time this season.
