The top four is locked and loaded for the senior football competition in 2023, and the status quo remains after Trentham came from behind to record a 13-point win over a determined Navarre.

The Saints’ victory means Navarre now sit two games and significant percentage behind Natte Bealiba in fifth place, while the Saints maintain their own two-game gap ahead of the Swans in third.

A spirited start from both teams saw seven goals scored in the opening term, with Navarre scoring four and Trentham scoring three, giving the Hoppers a four-point quarter time lead.

But the second quarter was all Trentham, as they were able to navigate the game better and render the Hoppers scoreless, while kicking another three goals to take a 16-point break going into half time.

The third quarter saw the momentum shift again, with Trentham kicking just one goal, while an inspired Navarre hit the front by kicking six goals for the term — the first time the Saints have conceded that many goals in a quarter since the corresponding round last year.

While Navarre held an 11-point lead at the final change, the Saints regained all their momentum and reprised the second quarter, kicking the only four goals of the term while again leaving the Hoppers scoreless to win by 13 points.

Joel Dovaston was best on ground for the Saints, ably supported by Dylan Holden, Harrison Knight, Taylor Ford, Zane French and Ryan Thiesz.

For Navarre, Daniel Reading, Josh and Jayden Fowkes, Billy Driscoll, Billy Parry and Bryce Tickner were named in the best.
