A warning for toxic blue-green algae has been removed from the Tullaroop Reservoir after more than 200 days.

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) lifted the warning after recording a significant decline in algae levels, with the warning first issued back in November last year — in place for a total 231 days.

It also follows the removal of a blue-green algae warning from Laanecoorie Reservoir last month which was in place for 43 days.

There are now no blue-green algae warnings in place for any of GMW’s waterbodies for the first time since 2018.

Blue-green algae occur naturally in bodies of water and contain toxins harmful to both humans and animals.

Signs of algae contact are skin rashes or itchiness, sore eyes, ears and nose, or if swallowed, nausea or vomiting.
