It was a tough day for Maryborough Soccer Club on Sunday, as Forest Rangers flexed their muscle to win 15-1 at Wendouree West.
The league powerhouse dominated against an undermanned Maryborough, scoring eight goals in the first half, before adding another seven to take a very comfortable win in what was the blue-and-whites toughest assignment of the year so far.
Maryborough’s sole goal came in the second half, with Forest Rangers scoring an own goal.
Michael Lockyer and Brandon Bosher proved to be too much for the Maryborough defence, scoring five goals apiece.
Maryborough were also unable to score victory in their under 14 game at Pleasant Street, with Ballarat White dominant in the first half to score four goals, before easing their way to a 5-1 victory.
Maryborough’s sole goal came through Darcy Wood in the second half.
Maryborough will now look to move on this weekend as they host Victoria Park on Sunday at Jubilee Oval.
The sixth-placed Vultures have been able to score two wins this season, but have also been one of the leakiest teams in the competition, conceding 28 goals.
That, coupled with Maryborough’s good form at home, means they will consider themselves to be a good chance to score victory this week.
The under 14s will be looking to return to the winners list, hosting Vikings Blue in the curtain raiser, with a chance to climb up the ladder against the ninth-placed team, while in the under nines, Maryborough will be travelling, with Maryborough Blue playing Ballarat Red and Maryborough Gold playing Victoria Park Blue.
