Highland Tartan survived a thriller against Golf Blue to take 14 competition points to maintain top spot on the ladder.

Golf Blue were able to take rink one, with the team of Harold Patullo defeating Gregory Shay 19-16, but Highland Tartan were able to bounce back on rinks two and three, with the Michael Fryar team defeating Kort Gay’s team 22-16, before Terry Hansen’s team defeated Kevin Prime’s team 18-14.

Dunolly Blue were able to keep in touch, beating an improving Newstead Blue 75-47.

Peter Waters’ team was able to get off to a good start for Dunolly, winning the first rink over Bill Burnett 27-14, and their advantage was extended on the second rink, with the team of Alan Parkes beating David Cobden 28-13. Newstead were at least able to take one premiership point on rink three, with the Brian Daly team settling for a draw with Alan Weir.

A strong finish on rinks two and three helped keep Talbot Gold in the race for a top two spot, defeating Highland Red 76-50.

It was Highland Red which got off to a good start on rink one, with the Dennis Turner team beating Paul Radstock 23-19, but Talbot Gold were at their best on rink two, with Peter McLouglin defeating Lawrence Barry 26-12, before the Peter Fletcher team finished off strongly, defeating Albert Spencer 31-15.

In the closest game of the round, Dunolly Gold moved into the top four at Golf Blue’s expense, defeating Avoca Red 54-50.

The James Fox team was able to take first blood on rink one, defeating Daniel Giddings 16-12, but Avoca Red bounced back on rink two, with Ian Proctor defeating Paul Chase 20-16.

Golf Blue will be looking to take advantage of that game when they travel to Newstead Blue.

In division two, Carisbrook will look to take full advantage of their league-leader status when they travel to Dunolly Green, while Highland White will look to bounce back when they host Newstead White. There will also be important matches in regards to the top four, with third-placed Talbot Brown hosting Avoca Gold, while Golf Gold and Maldon will be looking to return to the top four when they meet at Maryborough Golf Club.
