The inaugural Gospel in the Goldfields event will fill the church’s historic halls with modern gospel music, followed by afternoon tea.

Together the band and vocalists have well over two centuries of musical experience.

Gavin Cuff is on piano, guitar, and vocals joined by musicians Paul Patterson, Judy Cox, Don Armstrong, and Brian Chaplin.

Alongside are vocalists Natalie Wardrop and Kim Birnie with the vocal group of Sarah Moyle, Charlotte McAdam and Charli Vernon.

Gavin said the wealth of experience will make for a top quality performance.

“Musically, if you didn’t understand English, you’d still enjoy it. Doesn’t matter what your background is because there’s good melodies, good instrumentation and overall very good songs,” he said.

Audiences will be able to enjoy “modern” gospel music, from the 1990s through to around 2010, performed by the group.

Gavin said people were “keen” for the performance following last year’s carols.

“It’s certainly a big attraction and I can’t say I’ve heard of anything similar being done in this region,” he said.

He encouraged anyone interested in church music to attend Gospel in the Goldfields on July 19 at 2 pm.

“I think the quality of the music will be top notch,” he said.
