Top four teams clear away in midweek pennant
Victories for all the top four teams have put them in great positions to be the final four teams standing in the midweek pennant.
Dunolly Blue has placed a hefty dent into Maryborough Golf’s finals chances, taking a vital 70-40 victory.
Chris Williams set the tone for the match with his 21-12 victory over Brenda Lind and Alan Weir continued that momentum against Elizabeth Bucknall, winning 26-16.
Tony Galofaro ensured Dunolly Blue would claim all 16 points, besting Kort Gay 23-12.
Their strong performance means they only need one more victory to secure a top-two place.
The team they are chasing, Highland Tartan are still the favourites to claim the minor premiership, with their 100-33 win over Carisbrook putting them 13 points clear.
Carisbrook put up a stronger fight than the scoreline states, but Highland was too good throughout with Gregory Shay defeating Roy Pickering 23-16 and Leanne Wallis overcoming Laurence Cassidy 23-12.
Garry Coburn made the scoreline look like a blowout with a 54-5 victory against Phillip Burt.
Their sister team Highland Gold found similar success on Tuesday, defeating Dunolly Gold 81-36.
Roy Crawley produced a golden start for the hosts, winning 26-15 over Charles Spiteri while Paul Gothard had to work hard to claim his 22-16 win against Justin Ritchie.
Lowen Clarke put the icing on the cake for Highland Gold, claiming a strong 33-5 victory over Fabio Delconte.
Talbot also claimed 16 points after Avoca was forced to forfeit the contest.
When the dust settles on the penultimate round of the midweek pennant, we could figure out who will be the four teams battling for the premiership.
With 27 points separating second and third, nothing less than a win will suffice for Talbot to claim double chance when they travel to Dunolly.
Highland Gold will look to lock in their finals spot when they take on Avoca at the Highland Society.
A win and a Maryborough Golf loss to Carisbrook would secure Highland Gold a place in the finals, however, an inverse of those results could leave Highland Gold clinging on to that slot with Highland Tartan on the final day.
Before that round 14 clash, Tartan will look to claim the minor premiership with a win over Dunolly Gold and a slip-up from Dunolly Blue.
