MKM 7/99 def by Maryborough 6/162

Maryborough were too good for MKM, scoring a 63-run victory.

The Mill won the toss and elected to bowl first at Ron Sinclair Oval, but it was Lachlan Bursill who took advantage, scoring 51 to set the tone, while Ben Robertson added another 30 runs and Bradey Tranter an unbeaten 27 late in the piece, as Maryborough finished their innings on 162.

Tristan Tack was the Mill’s best bowler, finishing with 2/28 off eight overs.

The Mill gave it their best shot, but ultimately, it was too big an ask as the Owls showed their class, restricting the Mill to 99 runs.

Liam Maffescioni was the pick of the bowlers, bowling an incredible six maidens on his way to 2/6 off eight overs, while Daniel Petter took 2/21 off seven.

Josh O’Connor scored 19 runs for the Mill, and a player not in the system scored 26 runs.

Laanecoorie Dunolly 8/192 def Beaufort 129

Laanecoorie Dunolly continued their terrific start by beating a brave Beaufort team by 63 runs at True Blue Floors Oval.

Much of Laane’s success could be attributed to Callum Liddicoat, who continued his excellent start to the season by scoring 80 runs at the top of the order to set Laane up.

Lachlan Jackson provided some late hitting with his 39.

Andrew Grant led the way for the Crows with the ball, taking 3/30 off his six overs, while Ben Woolidge took 2/16 off four overs.

Beaufort put in a much-improved batting performance, with Joshua Lofts scoring 27 runs, and David Kiely scoring 23, but it was Jayden McDonald who tore through the Crows’ top order, taking 5/15 off eight overs.

Liddicoat’s all-round game saw him add 2/14 off four overs as Laane continued their unbeaten run.

Clunes 140 def by Colts Phelans 4/143

Colts Phelans took victory against Clunes by six wickets at Bull Millgate Oval.

Colts elected to bowl first after winning the toss, but Clunes looked like getting a solid score when Daniel Fordham’s 46 and Mark Jenkin’s 34 allowed the Magpies to get to 2/93.

But a steady stream of wickets, including losing their final six wickets for 16 runs, saw the Magpies rolled for 140.

Daniel McGregor was chief destroyer, taking 3/12 off six overs, while Regan Goundry (2/17 off five) and Tate Williams (2/20 off 5.3) were also multiple wicket-takers.

Charlie Scorer controlled the pace beautifully in Colts’ chase, scoring an unbeaten 71, which included a 74-run partnership with Graham Taylor, who remained unbeaten on 25, to seal the game.

Josh Dunn took 2/21 for Clunes off eight overs, while Jenkin and Lucas Fudge also took wickets, but it was Colts’ day as they inflicted Clunes’ first loss of the season.

Talbot 183 def Carisbrook 177

An incredibly thrilling game which went down to the last over saw Talbot take a six-run victory over Carisbrook at Talbot Recreation Reserve.

Carisbrook won the toss and bowled first, starting well by restricting Talbot to 3/33.

But consistency across Talbot’s middle and lower-order allowed the Yabbies to make 183, with Lachlan Roche top-scoring with 29, while Jorde Box and Jye Kenden made 23 apiece, and Karl Gunther 22.

Axel Purcell cleaned up the lower order, taking 3/14 off 3.2 overs, while James Adam (2/24 off eight) and Angus Morrison (2/40 off four) also took multiple wickets.

In comparison to Talbot, Carisbrook made a flyer, with Elliot Cullinan in particular showing out opening the batting, making 58.

Morrison (23) and Brandyn Eagle (21) also performed well for Carisbrook with the bat, but with Cullinan’s dismissal from 1/98 came a steady stream of wickets.

Talbot were able to hold on with Carisbrook still requring six runs, with Josh Cullinan run out to end the 39th over to land Talbot’s first win of the season.

Roche again performed well with the ball, taking 3/39 off eight overs.

Round Four

Dominating proceedings this week is the annual Craig Jennings Cup, played between Carisbrook and Maryborough at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.

After a thrilling game last season in what was an emotional affair, both teams will be looking to score victory in Craig’s memory.

A win for Maryborough could see them move into the top two depending on other results, while Carisbrook will hope to move into the top four if they win.

Laanecoorie Dunolly’s unbeaten run goes on the line on Saturday when they travel to Clunes.

The Magpies had a setback last week, but should still be confident that they can get the job done with their deep batting and bowling lineups.

But Laane, guided by leading run-scorer Liddicoat, will look to continue their winning start back in A reserve.

Colts Phelans have now moved to second, and could move to the top if Laane fail to win when they host MKM at Hedges Oval.

MKM have been impressive with their discipline with batting out their overs in both of their games so far, but will be hoping to up the run-rate against a quality Colts team this week.

Talbot, fresh off their first win of the season, will look to continue their good form when they host Beaufort at Talbot Recreation Reserve.

The Yabbies will have added confidence after their consistency with the bat last week, while Beaufort will also be hoping to continue their improvement after putting in a good effort against Laane.
