Campbells Creek moved to within one game of the top eight with a powerful second-half surge to overpower Dunolly by 14 goals.

The game was of utmost importance to both teams knowing that Newstead had a bye, with the winner very much staying in finals contention, while the loser would suffer a significant setback in their efforts to make the finals.

It was Dunolly that struck first, scoring 14 goals to 12 in the first quarter to take a narrow lead at the first change.

However, Campbells Creek were able to get themselves in front during the second quarter, scoring 14 goals to 11 to take a half time lead by the narrowest of margins.

With the season on the line for both teams, Campbells Creek exploded into life in the third quarter, scoring 20 goals to the Eagles’ eight to take a 13-goal lead into the final change.

The Magpies were able to turn the game into a defensive scrap in order to preserve their lead in the final quarter, scoring nine goals to eight to run out 55-41 winners.

Jemma Finning, Jordan Bagley and Claire Jones were best for the victorious Magpies, with Bagley scoring 34 goals.

Dunolly were well-served by Avril Price, Briella Gibbs and Kate Ashman, with Leah Davis leading the way in the goal circle with 32 goals.

Both teams face important assignments in the scheme of their finals chances now, with Campbells Creek hosting Maryborough Rovers and Dunolly travelling to Newstead.
