Nineteen goals to eight in the first term meant that Lexton had the jump, and Rachel Phelan scored 13 goals and Leesa Donhardt six for the Tigers. Meantime, for Maldon, Katelyn Cutlack scored seven goals and Katie Tong one.
Maldon slowed down the rate of the Tigers’ scoring in the second term, but it was still a 12-goal to eight quarter for the Tigers which allowed them to lead 31-16 at the main break. Phelan scored nine goals and Donhardt three for the Tigers, while for Maldon, Cutlack scored seven goals and Emma Webb one.
The Tigers continued to eke out the lead, scoring 13 goals to 10 in the third term to close for home leading 44-26. Phelan scored nine goals, while Donhardt added another four for the Tigers, while for Maldon, Cutlack and Webb scored five times apiece.
The Tigers finished very strongly, scoring 15 goals to seven in the final term to eventually take their 26-goal victory. Phelan scored nine goals in the last to finish with 40 for the day, while Donhardt scored six goals to finish with 19. For the Dons, in the meantime, Tayah Doyle scored four goals and Webb three.
The Dons now face a season-defining clash with Newstead as they continue to hold on to their spot in the top eight, while Lexton host Dunolly.
