The gap between the top two closed to just two premiership points in the midweek pennant, with Dunolly Blue showing they are a premiership threat by inflicting Highland Tartan’s first loss of the season.

The Heather Freemantle team helped Blue take two match points on rink one, defeating Jeanette Turner 20-14, but Highland Tartan were able to bounce back on rink two, with Gregory Shay beating Margaret Davies 24-11. However, it was rink three that made all the difference, with Tony Galofaro defeating Leanne Wallis 27-11 to help Dunolly Blue take a 58-49 win.

Elsewhere, Talbot’s cause for finals was helped by a 62-42 victory over Highland Gold.

The Robert Jackson team were able to make a good start, beating Lowen Clarke 22-15, before they were able to continue building their lead with Peter McLoughlin’s team just holding out to beat Albert Spencer 19-17. The Noreen Morris team ensured Talbot would complete the sweep, beating Tony Lacey 21-10.

Avoca moved 18 points clear of Carisbrook in fourth place courtesy of a 76-46 victory over Dunolly Gold.

They made a great start with the Loralee Field team winning 21-12 over Jim Haigh, but Dunolly Gold were able to bounce back thanks to Jill Morse defeating Christine Bearpark 21-20. However, Ann Loosmore’s team had a great outing on rink three, defeating Marilyn Mortlock 35-13.

In the closest game of the round, Carisbrook’s quest to play midweek finals suffered a significant blow when they were defeated by bottom-placed Maryborough Golf 53-52.

Despite losing, Carisbrook were able to take two rinks, with the Denise Matic team defeating Elizabeth Bucknall 18-17, before Phillip Burt defeated Michelle Harris 19-13. However, Golf’s best rink came on rink three, with Kort Gay defeating Eric Symons 23-15, and taking their one-shot victory.

The competition now takes a break over the summer holidays, with competition returning on Tuesday, January 17.
