Restoration works at the Maryborough Railway Station totalling $3.1 million were recognised with a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award of Merit.

Maryborough Education Centre students helped create a garden for patients to enjoy at the Maryborough Hospital.

Motorcyclists gathered for Kate’s Memorial Ride at the start of the month, honouring local student Kate Milne who passed away unexpectedly from an asthma attack. Funds raised were contributed to the Kate Milne Memorial Scholarship.
The historic Colman’s Corner in Maryborough (where KFC now stands) was demolished in preparation for new retail development.
Maryborough Regional College’s senior girls’ hockey team brought home the prestigious championship title from the Victorian Secondary School Sports Association state final.
Maryborough City Soccer Club claimed premiership flags across the board for the under 13s, under 15s and under 17s.
Harcourt won the MCDFNL senior footy and netball grand final this year.

1973
September kicked off with a downpour in 1973, washing out the Golden Wattle Festival to the disappointment of organisers.
Maryborough played host to the finish line of the Melbourne to Maryborough cycle race.
Ten Maryborough High School students broke the Guinness Book of Records 24-hour pram pushing record. The goal was to push a pram, carrying a ‘baby’ (another high schooler) while maintaining a minimum speed of nine miles an hour.
To break the record they needed to cover more than 200.4 miles, and that they did, pushing the pram 204 miles in 24 hours.
News broke that Maryborough’s manual telephone exchange would be closed from the following April with all manual trunk line calls from then to be routed through Ballarat — and the community wasn’t happy about it with wage losses predicted.
In sport, Royal Park brought home the local league premiership flag for the fourth time in seven years.
