Dunolly were the premiers in A grade tennis, defeating Talbot 4-1.

Maryborough’s new motel, the Dorojon, situated in Primrose Street, opened its doors to guests. The motel had a dining room with BYO licence, and for the first time in Maryborough, guests will have their own swimming pool.

The 103rd Rheola Carnival was held on Easter Monday, once again featuring the traditional well balanced mixed sports program, including woodchopping, skilled horsemen taking part in a polocross exhibition, footrunning, novelty events and entertainment.

Tektites dominated the local basketball scene winning five premierships in nine grades.

Mr N. C. Kerr is to retire from the Maryborough Technical College in April. He retires after a lifelong service as a teacher and as apprentice instructor.

Stopwork action continues at the Maryborough High School — 19 teachers take stopwork action every Friday disagreeing with the Government’s quoted working hours of 17.5 per week of work a teacher does. These teachers believe that there is more involved than the time spent in front of classes and many more hours must be added to preparation and correction time for those lessons.

Majorca Red Cross raised a total of $187 for the annual March appeal.

MKM opening batsman Col Trickey was voted Cricketer of the Year by one vote from Colts Phelans player Ken Gibbs.

The Commonwealth Library for the Maryborough High School is to be built. A Commonwealth Library will also be built for the Technical College, but building is held up until Station Street is officially closed to vehicular traffic.
