Team Lazaros star at Oceania Champs
Five members of the Team Lazaros BJJ & Muay Thai squad recently took the Oceania Kids Jiu Jitsu Championship by storm, all winning medals in an incredible showing for the Maryborough-based team.
Held at the Melbourne Sports Centre on Sunday, March 22, the international championships are considered one of the most prestigious events on the Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu calendar thanks to its six-star national ranking.
The event also remains the only kids-only major in the Oceania region.
Headlining the team’s achievements were Emma Miller and Bella Savvidis, who became Oceanic champions with victories in the Girls Gi/White/Pee Wee III and Girls No-Gi/Grey/Teen I competitions respectively.
Savvidis secured her title with an impressive submission victory in the Gold medal match, while Miller won a hard-fought final on points to be crowned champion.
Archie Mason and Ava Miller also advanced to their competition finals after victories in their semi-final encounters, both winning Silver medals.
Mickey Savvidis completed Team Lazaros’ hoard of inter-national medals by earning bronze in the Boys Gi/Yellow/ Teen III competition after two incredibly tight matches.
