Talbot swap meet offers bargains galore
Residents will look to grab themselves a bargain or find the missing piece to their vintage collection this Sunday at the annual Talbot Swap with the Lot event.
Originally established in 2003, the annual stall sale organised by Talbot Today and Tomorrow (TTT) attracts over 1500 buyers, collectors and traders to the Talbot Football and Netball Club grounds.
Money raised throughout the meet goes towards various commu-nity groups including local sporting clubs, the Talbot Fire Brigade and the Talbot Primary School.
TTT president Greg McNeilly, who has been involved with the event since its inception, said the community-first mentality and welcoming atmosphere of the meet makes the day special.
“The event comes from a desire to raise money for the community and put Talbot on the map in another aspect,” he said.
“In total, we currently have 320 sites out of a possible 360 and [people] are coming from as far away as Wollongong and Port Willunga in South Australia.
“It’s a friendly swap meet, we are like a big family — some of the stall holders have been with us since it started.”
With a various array of stall holders, visitors can purchase dazzling jewelry to complement a new outfit, plants and mannequins to decorate their home, toys to entertain the kids and everything in between.
Event volunteer Brian Taylor invites residents to catch a glimpse of what’s on offer as there is something for everybody.
“Last year was my first year and I was shocked because there wasn’t anything you could want that wasn’t for sale,” he said.
“I would encourage the public if they haven’t been before to come along on the day — it’s a wonderful atmosphere and good fun.”
The Talbot Swap with the Lot commences this Sunday, October 27 at the Talbot Football and Netball Club from 7 am. Entry is $8.
