The top three teams continued to flex their muscle in round eight of the A reserve competition, creating a significant gap on the ladder.

Maryborough 0/98 def MKM 9/92

Maryborough proved too strong for MKM at Princes Park, defeating the Mill by 10 wickets as their batting and bowling lineups fired on all cylinders.

MKM were able to get a number of consistent starts with five of their first six at the crease, but they were unable to sustain the run rate, with Dylin Leist top-scoring with 22, while Lewis Patten (16), Jithin Aby Thomas (13), Tristan Tack (12) and James O’Connor (10) also scored in double figures.

But it was the work of Chris Cassidy and Bradey Tranter which eventually allowed Maryborough to hold the Mill to 9/92 off their 40 overs. Cassidy took 4/30 off his eight overs, while Tranter took 3/8 in an incredibly economical spell off his eight overs.

When it came time to bat, Brad Rowe and Jason Hunt did the job with ease, with Hunt registering his first half-century of the season, while Rowe scored 40, as the Owls chased their target in 15 overs.

Natte Yallock def Colts Phelans via forfeit

Natte Yallock were able to keep their spot in the top four after Colts Phelans forfeited for the second straight game.

The Swans are now preparing for their 50th anniversary game against Talbot this week.

Clunes 3/73 def Carisbrook 69

Clunes sit just one game behind both Maryborough and Talbot in third spot, recovering from losing two wickets with their first two balls to defeat Carisbrook by seven wickets at Jubilee Oval.

Carisbrook were bowled out for 69 in just 29.4 overs, but were in the game when Michael Cook took two wickets with the first two deliveries.

But Clunes were able to recover, and eventually chased down their target in 12.1 overs.

Full stats were not available at the time of production.

Beaufort 5/158 def by Talbot 4/159

Beaufort had a good crack against Talbot, but it was the Yabbies that were too strong, taking a six-wicket victory at Lexton Recreation Reserve.

The Crows had their contributors at the top of the order, with Joshua Lofts scoring 30 runs, while Charlie Dyer finished unbeaten on 49, taking his tally to 108 runs over the last two weeks.

Kenneth Arch also had a strong outing, scoring 21 runs, as the Crows finished their innings scoring 158.

Jack Kenden was Talbot’s best bowler, taking 2/29 off eight overs.

Talbot were steady when it was their time to bat, with Kenden adding 21, but it was the partnership of Luke Kemp and Karl Gunther which allowed the Yabbies to dictate terms, with Gunther scoring 67 in his best outing of the season so far, while Kemp finished unbeaten on 29.

The Yabbies eventually chased down their target in 28 overs.

Round Nine

It’s a big weekend of celebration and rivalries for round nine of the A reserve competition.

Clunes will look to keep in touch with the top two when they host Beaufort at Bull Millgate Oval. The Magpies were successful earlier in the season in defeating the Crows by 201 runs, and will be looking for a similar performance here.

MKM will start a big two weeks for the club when they travel to Carisbrook to play for the Spokes-Koop Perpetual Shield. The Mill will be following this game with their 90th anniversary celebration the following week, and both they and Carisbrook will be seeking to keep their finals chances alive with a win.

Natte Yallock will be hosting their 50th anniversary game with a big clash against Talbot in a battle of top four teams.

The Swans will be hoping for a big crowd at Natte Yallock Oval as they celebrate the history and heritage of the club, and will look to enhance their top four prospects with a win.

Ladder-leader Maryborough will make the short trip to Hedges Oval to take on Colts Phelans.

While Colts have forfeited their last two matches, they are still in with a shout of making finals, but will face a tough task in overcoming the Owls.
