HARCOURT (56) def TALBOT (36)

The scoreboard says that Harcourt were able to defeat Talbot by 20 goals — but it doesn’t say how much the Lions were made to earn it by the plucky Hawks.

With Harcourt looking to keep within striking distance of the top four, it was a very credible performance from the winless Hawks, but a strong last quarter saw the Lions take the win in the end.

The Lions were able to open up a seven goal lead at the opening change as they were able to score 15 goals to Talbot’s eight.

They were then able to extend their lead going into half time, having scored 12 goals to the Hawks’ seven to lead 27-15.

However, Talbot have improved in recent weeks, and played arguably their best quarter of the year, scoring 16 goals to the Lions’ 12 to trail by just eight goals at three-quarter-time, 31-39.

The Lions, needing a response, were able to get it done in the final quarter, scoring 17 goals to the Hawks’ five to eventually run out 56-36 winners.

For the Lions, Chelsey Collinson and Kate Blake were amongst their better performers, with Lauren Peeler scoring 32 goals and Blake 22 goals.

For Talbot, Elise Decaria was their best player, scoring 16 goals, while Jacqueline Wardlaw and Amanda Swanson also played well.
