Switch 2 console releases
Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch 2, has released reportedly breaking sales records within 24 hours.

Following in the gilded footsteps of the original Switch, which sold over 150 million units making it one of the best selling consoles of all time, its successor seemed poised for triumph.
Considered evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, the Switch 2 takes what the Switch did well as a portable console and refines it.
However, the console’s high price of $699 or $769 with a game bundled in made for a possibly off putting expense in the current cost of living crisis.
This is compared to around $469 for the base model Switch 1 or $539 for the more premium Switch OLED — not to mention the large second-hand market.
In this context local retailers were uncertain what to expect on launch day — a momentous occasion for local gamers.
However, these factors reportedly haven’t slowed the Switch 2’s sales internationally.
According to Youtuber Nintendo Prime, three sources from Nintendo said the console sold three million units globally in 24 hours.
The record was previously held by the PlayStation 4, which sold over 1 million units in the first day.
Launching in November 2013, it took the PlayStation 4 until February to reach 5.3 million units sold.
When Nintendo confirms their latest console’s sales numbers it seems likely they’ll be high, but the question remains if they’ll reach the heights of the original.
