Natte Bealiba were too strong for the B.A Road Services Talbot Hawks on Saturday, utilising a dominant third quarter to help themselves to a 36-goal victory.
The Swans were able to return to the kind of form which saw them dominate the goalscoring charts last season, adding 67 goals for the afternoon.
It was the first quarter which allowed the Swans to have a good foothold on the game, adding 21 goals to seven to take a comfortable 14-goal lead at the first change. Emma Ryan scored 17 goals for the Swans, while Polly Douglas added four, while for Talbot, Dom Roche scored five goals and Eleisha Phelps two.
To the Hawks’ credit, they were able to slow down the Swans’ scoring rate in the second term and were also able to keep up themselves, but it was still the latter who extended their advantage, scoring 15 goals to 11 to take a 36-18 lead at the main break. Douglas scored eight goals for the Swans, while Ryan added seven, while for the Hawks, Roche scored six goals and Tia Skelton five.
The Swans took complete charge in the midcourt in the third quarter as they suffocated the Hawks’ ball movement, and were able to generate consistent scoring shots at will, while holding the Hawks to just three shots at goal during the quarter. As a result, the Swans won the quarter 20-2 to make it a 56-20 lead at the final change. Ryan added 14 goals for the Swans, while Douglas added six, and at the other end, Roche and Skelton scored one goal apiece.
Talbot were able to regroup and ran the game out well, but the margin remained at 36 goals, with both teams scoring 11 goals apiece. For the Swans, Ryan finished with seven goals to take her tally to 45 goals, while Douglas scored four, while for the Hawks, Phelps scored six goals and Skelton five.
Both teams face intriguing games in round six, with Natte Bealiba facing round five winners Campbells Creek and Talbot venturing to Trentham.
